With debts of GBP 1.6m exposed by supporters in January 1992, chairman Michael McRitchie called in administrators. Northampton Town entered administration on 9 April 1992 with Barry Ward as administrator. No points deduction applied (the Football League's automatic administration penalty did not exist until 2004-05).

Outcome: Survived. Administrator Barry Ward (Pannell Kerr Forster) ran the club. A CVA was approved and the administration discharged on 28 February 1994 (Companies House). The Supporters Trust gained board seats.
