The Vault is where the older football history lives. The FA Amateur Cup once drew 100,000 people to Wembley. A plan to parachute an amateur super-club into the Football League in the late 1920s came within a handful of votes of working. Fulham had promotion in their hands on the last day of the 1982-83 season and lost it at Derby.

Why the old stories still matter

Most of the arguments English football is having now, about money, governance and who the game is for, were had before. The Vault keeps the evidence.
