    After chairman Martin Gregory quit on 18 December 1998, Portsmouth applied in late January 1999 to go into administration. On 1 February 1999 the Co-operative Bank agreed to back the application. Milan Mandaric later bought the club out of administration. No points deduction applied (the Football League's automatic administration penalty did not exist until 2004-05).

    Outcome: Survived. Milan Mandaric bought the club out of administration in 1999 (May 1999 per Wikipedia).

  2. · Premier League · Administration · -9 points

    Portsmouth, with debts of about GBP 60m, became the first Premier League club to enter administration on 26 February 2010 and were docked nine points. They exited in October 2010 after relegation to the Championship.

    Owner at the time: Balram Chainrai

    Outcome: Survived. Administrator Andrew Andronikou (UHY Hacker Young); CVA approved 17 June 2010; sale to Balram Chainrai, Levi Kushnir and Deepak Chainrai approved by the Football League 24 Oct 2010. Old company compulsorily wound up from 24 Feb 2011.

  3. · Championship · Administration · -20 points

    Portsmouth entered administration for the second time in three seasons on 17 February 2012, after an HMRC winding-up petition froze their accounts, and were docked 10 points in the Championship. On exit in April 2013 under the Pompey Supporters' Trust they received a further 10-point deduction in League One.

    Outcome: Survived. 10 points in 2011-12 (Championship) and 10 more on exiting administration on 19 April 2013, applied immediately to 2012-13 League One; club taken over by the Pompey Supporters' Trust. Administrator Trevor Birch (PKF).
