Wrexham, about GBP 2.6m in debt with almost GBP 1m owed to the Inland Revenue, went into administration to head off a winding-up order. They became the first Football League club docked 10 points under the new rule, which led to relegation.

Outcome: Survived. The 10-point deduction stood and Wrexham were relegated to League Two in May 2005. A consortium led by Neville Dickens bought the club out of administration on 3 August 2006, after 18 months.
