    Wolves went into receivership for the second time in four years on 2 July 1986, with debts of almost GBP 2m, after three straight relegations had dropped them into the Fourth Division. Receivership is recorded here as an administration-type event. No points deduction applied (the Football League's automatic administration penalty did not exist until 2004-05).

    Owner at the time: Mahmud and Mohammad Bhatti (Allied Properties)

    Outcome: Survived. Rescued in summer 1986: Wolverhampton Council stepped in and Gallagher (J.J. Gallagher) bought the club and rented the stadium from the council, and the Bhatti brothers were forced out. The club kept its place and started 1986-87 in the Fourth Division.
