  2. · League One · CVA · -10 points

Facing an Inland Revenue winding-up petition, Rotherham United's creditors approved a Company Voluntary Arrangement in May 2006, after the 2005-06 season had ended; the Football League imposed a 10-point sporting sanction from the start of 2006-07 (League One). No administration order was made.

Outcome: Survived. CVA approved by creditors (Companies House: meeting 9 May 2006; CVA ended 30 Sep 2010). Club avoided liquidation and played 2006-07 in League One with the deduction, and was relegated that season.

  3. · League Two · Administration · -27 points

Rotherham United went into administration on 18 March 2008, two years after their 2006 CVA, owing the Inland Revenue hundreds of thousands of pounds, and were deducted 10 points in League Two. They accepted a 17-point deduction for 2008-09 because no CVA was agreed.

Owner at the time: Denis Coleman (chairman)

Outcome: Survived. 10 points in 2007-08 (League Two) and 17 points for 2008-09 for being unable to exit administration via a CVA; League admitted the club under 'exceptional circumstances' on condition it returned to Rotherham within four years (it had left Millmoor for Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield).
