Third Division Darlington were placed in administration under chairman George Reynolds, who blamed cash problems on restrictions on using their new 27,000-capacity stadium. The club came out via a CVA in May 2004, taken over by the Sterling Consortium.
Owner at the time: George Reynolds (chairman)
Outcome: Survived. Creditors accepted a CVA in late May 2004 and the Sterling Consortium took over after releasing George Reynolds from bankruptcy proceedings; some creditors called for an investigation.

Darlington entered administration on 25 February 2009 while seventh in League Two and were deducted 10 points, ending their promotion hopes. They exited in August 2009 after a CVA and takeover by Raj Singh.
Owner at the time: George Houghton (chairman)
Outcome: Survived. CVA approved; Football League allowed the club out of administration on 7 Aug 2009 under new chairman Raj Singh, with no further deduction for 2009-10.

Darlington were placed into administration on 3 January 2012, their third in nine years, and deducted 10 points in the Conference Premier. The new owners were treated by the FA as a new club and dropped to the Northern League.
Owner at the time: Raj Singh (chairman)
Outcome: Phoenix club. Club sold to DFC 1883 Ltd; the FA treated it as a new club, barred the Darlington FC name and placed it in the Northern League (appeal dismissed 21 June 2012), playing as Darlington 1883. Old company Darlington Football Club 2009 Ltd in creditors' voluntary liquidation from 6 July 2012.
