    Bury were placed into administration by their two directors with debts of about GBP 2.6m, and the High Court gave the administrator two weeks to raise GBP 370,000 or face winding-up. Fans' appeals raised money worldwide.

    Outcome: Survived. Club survived after a public fundraising appeal; relegated to the Third Division at the end of 2001-02.

    Bury's creditors approved a CVA on 18 July 2019, an insolvency event for which the EFL imposed a 12-point deduction for 2019-20. After C&N Sporting Risk pulled out of a takeover, the EFL withdrew Bury's membership on 27 August 2019, the first expulsion since Maidstone United in 1992.

    Owner at the time: Steve Dale

    Outcome: Phoenix club. Club never played a 2019-20 fixture; the CVA was terminated on 9 March 2020. Phoenix club Bury AFC applied to the North West Counties League in 2020.
