Until we meet again, some sunny day
There have been points in the past when there have been breaks of a week or two on this website, but none of them came about for the reasons that this one did. As many – probably most – of you will already be aware, I recently applied for and accepted a full-time writing job for Football365, and should you have missed out on this piece of news, you can find everything I’ve written for them here.
This has all come as something of a surprise. I never really expected to make a living from football; after all, the competition is just *so* great. In fact, if anything, I probably assumed that it might be this place that took off and that there might be a route to it through that. Since I never had the time to ‘monetise’ this place, though, that was never likely to happen.
I have been exceptionally lucky, in that respect. Paid writing gigs in football are rarer than hen’s teeth, still less at a company that seems to treat its staff well, and with an editor who has the great balance between showing me what I need to do and encouraging me to express myself.
All of this means, of course, that my time for this place is severely limited. It will stay open, in no small part because there is such a vast archive that I do not want to lose, but I haven’t quite arrived at a conclusion over what I want to actually do with it yet. With this in mind, I’m open to offers, should anyone wish to take it over and run it.
Should you believe that you can make some money from it, go ahead and be my guest. I’ll keep paying the hosting costs, though, so I’d expect it to not be turned into a content farm/place for gambling spam/illegal streaming or whatever. The best way to contact me is through my Twitter account. Should you be interested in contributing, say, one article per week, I’d be happy to sub-edit and post it up for you (under your own name, of course).
I will be trying to contribute here occasionally, probably with whatever I feel I want to write but that isn’t suitable for F365, and I’m pleased to be able to confirm that the 200% podcast will be continuing from next week on. We just had a week off last week because my podcast wife was otherwise engaged, and because I needed to be focusing entirely on my new job.
At this point, there are thanks that I want to offer. I want to thank F365 for having given me such an incredible opportunity, and I want to particularly thank Ed Carter, Mark Murphy, and everybody else who has contributed to this place over the last 15 years. And, at the risk of sounding overly sentimental, I want to thank everybody who reads the site, and who shares our pieces on social media. It’s more important than you probably realise.
If I don’t receive any interest, I’ll probably redesign the home page and turn it into an archive, but this site does still have some degree of reach, and it would be nice to keep it going as an active site. But in the meantime, it’s time for me to move on to pastures new. It’s been a ride, and it hasn’t ended yet. I couldn’t be more surprised, or happier.
