So it was that 1992 began with Manchester United comfortably ahead of Leeds United at the top of the last First Division table before the introduction of the Premier League. This weekend’s continuation of our story of this season starts with the traditional New Year’s Day’s fixtures, but the FA Cup also breaks up this particular month on two separate occasions, so we also have highlights of the Third Round match between Wrexham and Arsenal, as well as the Fourth Round match between Bristol Rovers and Liverpool. As ever, the league table as it stood at the end of this month is shown at the foot of this page, with Leeds United still trailing Manchester United, although the gap between the two sides was, somewhat ominously for the Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson, starting to narrow.
