Podcast 200: An Echo of Glory, Part 10 – Tough At The Top

by | Mar 8, 2020

This week, it’s the 200th 200% podcast, so well done us. At the start of 1969, England held the World Cup, the European Cup, and the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. Within six years, any hopes of English football superiority failed to come to anything, but there are two stories to tell here. One is of decline, but this week’s is of something quite different. Between 1967 and 1973, seven different clubs won the First Division championship in seven seasons, whilst England were involved in two memorable matches in their attempt to keep hold of the World Cup. It was a time of ridiculous egos, and a huge lurch towards the modern game.

It’s time for the tenth episode of our series An Echo of Glory, the story of football in England and Wales. There’s a bunch of different ways in which you can subscribe to the 200% podcast. You can do so through Spotify, which you can find right here, and you can download this week’s to listen to at your leisure by right-clicking and saving here, whilst the podcast RSS feed is here and you can subscribe through Itunes here. Please rate and review if you appreciate what we do!

And if you’re wondering about any other ways in which you can prevent us from wasting away and ultimately starving to death, we also still have our Redbubble shop, for the sartorially minded amongst you, and you can get more 200% podcasts on a variety of different subjects by joining us on Patreon. We even now have a Kofi button, so do feel free to feed me stimulants in order to keep me cracking on in a caffeine-fuelled state of delirium until four o’clock every morning, and many thanks to those of you who have already been generous enough to donate.
