Euro 2020(1) Live! Wales vs Turkey
The atmosphere is likely to be hostile in Baku this afternoon, but Wales have every right to go into their match against Turkey with a degree of confidence. They absorbed Switzerland with only a couple of light concerns at the weekend, and this afternoon comes the game that matters. With Italy to face in Rome in their final match, a failure to win today will leave Wales a mountain to climb from their final game, but that’s no reason to feel particularly concerned. After all, Turkey may have already played the group seeds, but they were pretty abject in losing 3-0 to them, and there was little on display that will concern manager Rob Page that much.
None of this means that this isn’t a challenge for Wales. There may have been practically no-one in the Olympic Stadium in Baku when they played there at the weekend, but this won’t be the case tonight. Relations between the two countries are such that this is a de facto away fixture for Wales, and they’re expecting more than 30,000 there tonight, in a stadium that is licensed to operate at 50% of its capacity. Here are the teams, to be getting on with, I’ll be back shortly before kick off to take you all through it.
Turkey: Cakir, Celik, Ayhan, Soyuncu, Meras, Yokuslu, Under, Karaman, Tufan, Calhanoglu, Yilmaz.
