Video of the Day: Grimsby Town vs Arsenal, 1986

by | Jan 8, 2016

We’re continuing the theme of the FA Cup Third Round with our Video of the Day this morning, and today’s offering is another half-forgotten match from the 1980s. We’re off to Cleehtorpes for a match between Grimsby Town and Arsenal. Grimsby are now in the National League, but in 1986 they were in the Second Division of the Football League, while Arsenal were in a bit of a trough, having not won a major trophy since the 1979 FA Cup and having not really challenged for the league championship since the early 1970s, whilst a year earlier they’d been beaten by Fourth Division York City in the Fourth Round of the competition, so there was plenty of room for nerves over this particular trip. Commentary at an icy Blundell Park comes from Brian Moore.
