As the nights started to draw in during the autumn of 1991, the First Division of the Football League was starting to take a familiar shape that it would maintain for the majority of the rest of the season, with Manchester United and Leeds United at the top of the table, with the defending champions Arsenal tucked in just behind them and Liverpool, who had dominated English domestic football for most of the previous decade, off the pace somewhat. October 1991 featured one free week for the clubs of the First Division as teams broke for a week on the weekend on the 12th October for international matches, but we have also got another round of goals from the Football League Cup.
