Non-League Videos Of The Week: 26/02/2012

We’re mostly heading south for this weeks non-league videos of the week, and specifically to the Blue Square Bet South. Woking have opened up a gap at the top of the table, but their trip to a Hampton & Richmond side struggling to avoid relegation still looked like a tricky match, while elsewhere Farnborough FC were at home against Tonbridge Angels and Dover Athletic were at home against Welling United. Finally, we have a trip to the North West Counties League, where top of the table Bootle played Ramsbottom United, who are two points behind them in third place in the table, but with two games in hand. Our thanks go to all of those that take the time to record, edit and upload these matches. You can follow Twohundredpercent on Twitter by clicking...

Non-League Videos Of The Week: The FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round

This week’s Non-League Videos of The Week are a day late, but we think that we they are are worth the wait. This week, we are concentrating on the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy. With a place in the First Round of the competition at stake, this is a competition with a very tangible prize at the end of it – a day out at Wembley come the end of the season. And whilst the clubs of the Blue Square Premier, who join the competition in the next round, may be more focussed upon trying to bag themselves a Wembley trip in the Blue Square Premier play-offs come the end of the season, the clubs from below the top division of non-league football also have a chance of booking themselves at Wembley. We’ll cut straight to the chase this evening, our five matches are Chelmsford City vs Woking, Guiseley AFC vs Eastwood Town, Matlock Town vs Hyde, Hampton & Richmond Borough vs Canvey Island and Eastbourne Borough vs Dartford. Our thanks, as ever, go to those that take the time to record, edit and upload these videos. You can follow Twohundredpercent on Twitter by clicking here...

The Twohundredpercent Pre-Season Predictions: Conference South

There is a lot of money flying about in the Blue Square South this season as the teams jostle to fill the void at the top left by Braintree Town and Ebbsfleet United. The gap between those with a decent budget and those without seems to be growing a bit more in the southern half of Step 2 than in the northern half. Oh and all the teams who have enjoyed a nice little comfort zone around the M25 and M4 corridor have a lovely jaunt down to Cornwall to look forward too. Promotion Contenders Woking seem to be nailed on favourites to win the league and its certain that they have a very strong squad. But they will face some stiff competition from Dover Athletic, Chelmsford City and Eastbourne Borough. Gary Hill turned the squad when he joined as manager last season so expect big things in his first full season in charge, reports from pre-season games suggest they are looking like a quality side already. The fact that some players have taken a wage cut in order to stay suggests a team with proper ambition. Dover Athletic may have lost talisman striker Adam Birchall to Gillingham but they should still give the top teams a run for their money. In comes George Purcell from York CIty, he’s full fit after an injury-ravaged season but should be on...

Non-League Videos Of The Week

We have a lot of videos to get through for this week’s non-league videos of the week, as the non-league season comes to an end and the end of season play-offs begin. First up, comes a match from the race for the play-off places in the Blue Square South. With Braintree Town already promoted to the Blue Square Premier as champions of the division, most eyes on the last day of the season turned to the question of who will be joining them. Chelmsford City have been hanging around the play-off places for most of the season, and they went into their final league match of the season knowing that a win would guarantee them a place in the Blue Square South play-offs. They were at home against a Hampton & Richmond Borough side that have spent much of their season just above the relegation places and who went into Saturday’s match already safe in the knowledge that they were just about already safe.   The Blue Square South play-off semi-finals will, therefore, be between Farnborough FC and Woking, while Chelmsford City will travel to Ebbsfleet United in the other match. In the Premier Division of the Ryman League, meanwhile, a similar situation had arisen. Sutton United had been crowned as the champions of the division several weeks ago, but the race for the play-off places has been one...

Match Of The Week: Lewes 1-2 Hampton & Richmond Borough

It’ a warm and pleasant Saturday afternoon, and it’s a scene that is being repeated the length and breadth of the country. From the tip of Cornwall to the top of Northumberland, Non-League Day is upon us and at The Dripping Pan Lewes were at home to Hampton & Richmond Borough in the Blue Square South. The initiative has put something extra in the air – a sense of heightened expectation that, in some small and modest way, we, for once, are in the spotlight this afternoon. There are a few nursing hangovers from the night before’s unexpectedly comfortable England win, but these are eased by a welcoming clubhouse, local beers and greasy food. Saturday afternoon isn’t a time for being healthy, on the whole, though. On the pitch, Lewes have a problem. Their reasonably bright start to the season is starting to feel like something of a distant memory already. They have lost their last three matches and their team is shot through with injuries. They managed four new loan signings by the closure of the transfer window to try and plug the gaps, but there has been talk that they may even struggle to fill their substitutes bench this afternoon. The reality of their financial predicament is that they can’t afford to just go out and replace injured players with new ones. They can see the light...
