100 Owners: Number 75 – Graham Westley (Farnborough Town)

There are few people in lower division football for whom more vituperation is reserved than Graham Westley. The Preston North End manager has a reputation for management-speak and self-aggrandisement that is well known, but such character flaws are hardly unfamiliar in football management – even at its lower levels. Westley’s unpopularity runs deeper than that, though, tapping the sort of raw nerve amongst the supporters of other clubs which can render even the most placid and level-headed amongst us incandescent with dumb, impotent rage. As the manager of Stevenage Borough, he took the club into the Football League and then into League One whilst also beating Newcastle United in the FA Cup before moving on to join Preston North End, but his achievements as a manager remain somewhat tarnished by events that took place more than a decade ago. Westley was, prior to the beginning of his managerial career, an accomplished non-league player who might have had greater success on the pitch had he not apparently had such as restless nature and been so unlucky with an injury that ended his playing days at just twenty-eight years of age. In eight years as a player, he played for thirteen different clubs (including four in one year in 1990), but he never fully recovered from a serious injury picked up whilst playing for Kingstonian during the late 1980s. His managerial...

Non-League Videos Of The Week: 18-08-2012

The premier division of the Football Conference may have started last weekend, but this weekend is the one that we’re marking as the start of the new football season and the return of our non-league videos of the week. Tonight, we have four matches from four different divisions as clubs get back to competitive action after their summer break. Our first match comes from the Blue Square Bet South, and is the match between Dover Athletic and Farnborough FC. The home side ended last season two places and five points from the play-off places and will hoping to go one better this season, whilst Farnborough, having been deducted five points during the season for a breach of the Football Conferences financial rules, ended the season in sixteenth place in the table, just four points above the relegation places. Our second match comes from the Blue Square Bet North, and is the match between Altrincham, who also finished just outside the play-off places at the end of last season, and Brackley Town, who are playing at this level for the first time having won the Southern League Premier Division by eight points last season. Our third match is between Waltham Forest and Grays Athletic from Division One North of the Ryman League – with Grays being amongst the favourites for promotion from that division – and we finish off with...

Non-League Videos Of The Week: 22-04-2012

It’s the penultimate week of the non-league season, and while most of the championship issues have now been resolved there are still relegation places to be filled at the bottom of many of the tables. We’ve got a mixture of the top and the bottom of the tables for you this evening, kicking off with the bottom of the Blue Square Premier. The relegation places are already decided, but AFC Telford United went into their final home match of the season looking to boost their league position with a win against Grimsby Town, while Newport County prepared for their forthcoming FA Trophy final with a home match against Alfreton Town and Forest Green Rovers played already relegated Darlington. In the Blue Square Bet South, meanwhile, champions Woking were at home against Truro City, whilst at the bottom of the table Farnborough and Havant & Waterlooville both went into their match at Cherrywood Road needing a win to avoid relegation from the division. Finally, we’re off to the Southern League Premier Division, where Weymouth needed a win against Hitching Town in order to guarantee avoiding relegation themselves. Our thanks, as ever, go to those that take the time to record, edit and upload these matches. You can follow Twohundredpercent on Twitter by clicking...

Non-League Videos Of The Week: 26/02/2012

We’re mostly heading south for this weeks non-league videos of the week, and specifically to the Blue Square Bet South. Woking have opened up a gap at the top of the table, but their trip to a Hampton & Richmond side struggling to avoid relegation still looked like a tricky match, while elsewhere Farnborough FC were at home against Tonbridge Angels and Dover Athletic were at home against Welling United. Finally, we have a trip to the North West Counties League, where top of the table Bootle played Ramsbottom United, who are two points behind them in third place in the table, but with two games in hand. Our thanks go to all of those that take the time to record, edit and upload these matches. You can follow Twohundredpercent on Twitter by clicking...
