Eastleigh & The Folly of FA Cup Scheduling

There is, without a great deal of doubt, something of a dark cloud hanging over the FA Cup this season. Even what might have been considered to be something approaching positive stories have become cloaked in cynicism, and much of that cynicism has been well-placed. From the BBC’s apparent love-in with Salford City, a relationship which started to look nauseating, especially when considering the involvement at that club of the billionaire businessman Peter Lim and the multi-millionaires of the increasingly ubiquitous “Class of ’92” gang, to top division clubs giving the impression of being involved in some sort of...

Non-League Videos Of The Week: 11-09-11

This week’s non-league videos of the week come from the top of the Blue Square South, the Southern League Division One South and West and the FA Vase. Our first two matches feature two clubs that have had an excellent start to the season in the Blue Square South. Dartford sit in the play-off places in the division, and they are at home against struggling Eastleigh, while leaders Welling United faced a long trip south-west for a tricky match against another team that has made an inconsistent start to the season, Dorchester Town. In the Southern League Division One South and West, meanwhile, struggling Wimborne made a trip to Paulton Rovers, and finally, in the north-east, Bedlington Terriers started their FA Case campaign with a match against Stokesley. Our most sincere thanks, as ever, go to those that go to the trouble of recording, editing and uploading these matches – four matches which contain no less than twenty-five goals.         You can follow Twohundredpercent on Twitter by clicking...

The Twohundredpercent Pre-Season Predictions: Conference South

There is a lot of money flying about in the Blue Square South this season as the teams jostle to fill the void at the top left by Braintree Town and Ebbsfleet United. The gap between those with a decent budget and those without seems to be growing a bit more in the southern half of Step 2 than in the northern half. Oh and all the teams who have enjoyed a nice little comfort zone around the M25 and M4 corridor have a lovely jaunt down to Cornwall to look forward too. Promotion Contenders Woking seem to be nailed on favourites to win the league and its certain that they have a very strong squad. But they will face some stiff competition from Dover Athletic, Chelmsford City and Eastbourne Borough. Gary Hill turned the squad when he joined as manager last season so expect big things in his first full season in charge, reports from pre-season games suggest they are looking like a quality side already. The fact that some players have taken a wage cut in order to stay suggests a team with proper ambition. Dover Athletic may have lost talisman striker Adam Birchall to Gillingham but they should still give the top teams a run for their money. In comes George Purcell from York CIty, he’s full fit after an injury-ravaged season but should be on...

Non-League Videos Of The Week

This week’s non-league videos of the week come from the top and bottom of the Blue Square South, and from the Combined Counties League. Our first match comes from Princes Park, and is between Dartford and Lewes. Dartford are comfortable now in mid-table in the Blue Square South. Lewes, however, are in trouble at the foot of the table, although a surprise win against the league leaders, Braintree Town, on Wednesday night left them still in touch with their rivals at the foot of the table. With just a handful of matches left this season, however, they still need to pick up a couple of wins if they are to have any chance of lifting themselves out of the relegation places. Our second match comes from the other end of the table. Under the managership of Garry Hill, Woking have had something of a renaissance during the second half of this season and are in the play-off places, whilst still harbouring ambitions of overhauling Braintree Town at the top of the table. Yesterday afternoon, they were playing away against Eastleigh, who are still in the hunt for a play-off place for a place in the Blue Square Premier at the end of this season. Indeed, with two games in hand and the top of that table looking very congested indeed, they may even have half a chance of catching...

Midweek Non-League Video Special

The pressures of the outside world don’t often often intrude into the world of Twohundredpercent, but they have this evening and our normal service has been slightly interrupted. Everything will be back to normal with a fresh Mungo tomorrow morning, but for tonight we’re going to leave you with a handful more non-league videos from the last couple of days. Last night was a big night in non-league football, with matches the length and breadth of the country, and our first match is the Blue Square South match between Dartford and Eastleigh. With Eastleigh in the pack chasing a play-off place, this was an important match. Our second match comes from the top of the Ryman League Premier Division. Bury Town are in the pack chasing leaders Sutton United, and a win last night against mid-table Margate would help them close the gap on the leaders. With Sutton not having a game last night, a win would reduce Sutton’s lead at the top of the table to six points, with Bury still having a game in hand. Our third match is from the Blue Square North, where Monday night’s match between Hyde FC and AFC Telford United affected both ends of the league table, with Hyde being just above the relegation places and Telford still being in the play-off places and with a chance of still snatching the championship...
