The Twohundredpercent Pre-Season Predictions: Conference South

There is a lot of money flying about in the Blue Square South this season as the teams jostle to fill the void at the top left by Braintree Town and Ebbsfleet United. The gap between those with a decent budget and those without seems to be growing a bit more in the southern half of Step 2 than in the northern half. Oh and all the teams who have enjoyed a nice little comfort zone around the M25 and M4 corridor have a lovely jaunt down to Cornwall to look forward too. Promotion Contenders Woking seem to be nailed on favourites to win the league and its certain that they have a very strong squad. But they will face some stiff competition from Dover Athletic, Chelmsford City and Eastbourne Borough. Gary Hill turned the squad when he joined as manager last season so expect big things in his first full season in charge, reports from pre-season games suggest they are looking like a quality side already. The fact that some players have taken a wage cut in order to stay suggests a team with proper ambition. Dover Athletic may have lost talisman striker Adam Birchall to Gillingham but they should still give the top teams a run for their money. In comes George Purcell from York CIty, he’s full fit after an injury-ravaged season but should be on...

Non-League Videos Of The Week

This week’s non-league videos of the week come from the top and bottom of the Blue Square South, and from the Combined Counties League. Our first match comes from Princes Park, and is between Dartford and Lewes. Dartford are comfortable now in mid-table in the Blue Square South. Lewes, however, are in trouble at the foot of the table, although a surprise win against the league leaders, Braintree Town, on Wednesday night left them still in touch with their rivals at the foot of the table. With just a handful of matches left this season, however, they still need to pick up a couple of wins if they are to have any chance of lifting themselves out of the relegation places. Our second match comes from the other end of the table. Under the managership of Garry Hill, Woking have had something of a renaissance during the second half of this season and are in the play-off places, whilst still harbouring ambitions of overhauling Braintree Town at the top of the table. Yesterday afternoon, they were playing away against Eastleigh, who are still in the hunt for a play-off place for a place in the Blue Square Premier at the end of this season. Indeed, with two games in hand and the top of that table looking very congested indeed, they may even have half a chance of catching...

Midweek Non-League Video Special

The pressures of the outside world don’t often often intrude into the world of Twohundredpercent, but they have this evening and our normal service has been slightly interrupted. Everything will be back to normal with a fresh Mungo tomorrow morning, but for tonight we’re going to leave you with a handful more non-league videos from the last couple of days. Last night was a big night in non-league football, with matches the length and breadth of the country, and our first match is the Blue Square South match between Dartford and Eastleigh. With Eastleigh in the pack chasing a play-off place, this was an important match. Our second match comes from the top of the Ryman League Premier Division. Bury Town are in the pack chasing leaders Sutton United, and a win last night against mid-table Margate would help them close the gap on the leaders. With Sutton not having a game last night, a win would reduce Sutton’s lead at the top of the table to six points, with Bury still having a game in hand. Our third match is from the Blue Square North, where Monday night’s match between Hyde FC and AFC Telford United affected both ends of the league table, with Hyde being just above the relegation places and Telford still being in the play-off places and with a chance of still snatching the championship...

Non-League Videos Of The Week

After a couple of weeks off, we’re bringing back our weekly round-up of non-league videos. Yesterday saw the Third Round of the FA Trophy, and our first two matches come from that competition, kicking off with AFC Wimbledon’s match against Woking. Wimbledon dropped two points against Luton Town during the week and were looking to regain a little momentum. Woking may be a division below Wimbledon, but they have won the FA Trophy three times and took Brighton & Hove Albion to a penalty-shoot-out in the First Round of the FA Cup. The second match, meanwhile, is the match between Ashford Town (Middlesex) of the Zamaretto League Division One Central and Dartford of the Blue Square South, a match which saw one of the biggest crowds in recent years at Ashford’s Short Lane. Our second two matches are both league matches. Sutton United are comfortably clear at the top of the Ryman League Premier Division, and they were at home at the weekend against Concord Rangers, who are one of the many sides chasing the play-off positions for a place in the Blue Square South. Our final match takes us to the First Division of the Combined Counties League and the match between Warlingham and the league leaders, Farnham Town. It’s a match that is well worth ten minutes of your time. As ever, our thanks go to those...

Videos Of The Week: Non-League Special

This evening’s Videos Of The Week come again from the non-league game. This weekend saw the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy. It’s the final round of the competition before the clubs of the Blue Square Premier enter the competition, so there is a potential reward for the competing teams. With a final at Wembley the ultimate reward, there is all to play for and our first match comes from it. Our first match sees Dartford of the Blue Square South travel to Thurrock. The two teams are both battling relegation from that league at the moment, so this match might turn out to be a welcome relief from their poor league form. The second match also comes from the FA Trophy. Welling United have had their fair share of financial difficulties so far this season, but on the pitch they have been having quite a successful time of it and currently sit in third place in the Blue Square South. They were at home on Saturday afternoon against Tonbridge Angels of the Ryman League Premier Division. Tonbridge were also subject to rumours about their situation earlier this year, but they have had a reasonable start to the season and are in eleventh place in the table. Our third match comes from the Premier Division of the Zamaretto League. Weymouth’s difficulties have been extensively documented on this site...
