Non-League Videos Of The Week

This week’s non-league matches of the week come from a variety different competitions. As the weather started to return to something approaching normal, the a near-full schedule of matches was played, including matches in both the FA Trophy and postponed matches from the FA Vase. Our first match is the FA Trophy match between Wimbledon and Braintree Town. Wimbledon could be forgiven for considering the FA Trophy something of a distraction in comparison with what is looking like becoming a three-way tussle for the Blue Square Premier championship with Crawley Town and Luton Town, but the current Wimbledon club has only played at Wembley once before, to play what was effectively a friendly match there against Corinthian-Casuals in 2008. The FA Trophy, we might compose, would look rather nice in their trophy cabinet, come the end of the season. Their opponents are the Essex side Braintree Town, who are currently top of the Blue Square South and might fancy their chances against a team with other things on their mind. Our second match sees us at Gigg Lane for the Evostik League Premier Division between FC United of Manchester and FC Halifax Town. FC United’s FA Cup run came to an end during the week, and they have found themselves slipping into the relegation zone at the bottom of the league table, although they do still have games in...

Video Of The Week: Non-League Special

We’re returning this week to a theme that we touched on a couple of weeks ago, with highlights from some of the matches played in the non-league game over the last few days. We kick off with a top of the table local derby from the Ryman League Premier Division that was played last Tuesday night between Sutton United and Kingstonian. A crowd of not far short of 800 (a remarkable statistic, if we stop and consider that this is being played in effectively the regional seventh division of English football) turned out for this match, with Sutton three points clear at the top of the table and with a chance to extend their lead. Our second match sees us stay in Surrey, for Saturday’s match from the Blue Square South between Woking and Chelmsford City. Both of these teams have had curious seasons so far. Woking could be forgiven for being distracted by their forthcoming FA Cup match against Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday night, with a match against FC United of Manchester being the reward for the winners of that match. For all of their success in the FA Cup this season, however, Woking have stalled in the league so far and sit in a lower mid-table position at present. Chelmsford City are already in the Second Round of the competition and will travel to Wycombe...

Match Of The Week: Bury Town 5-0 Leighton Town

Bury Town have rather been in the shadow of their local rivals AFC Sudbury in recent years, but they are having a good go at the Southern League Midland Division this season and, with top of the table Hitchin Town frozen off, they had a chance to go top of the table against mid-table Leighton Town yesterday.
