The Tropic Of Ruislip: An Afternoon Out With Wealdstone FC

For our very last Non-League Day related story, David Bauckham travelled up to Middlesex for the Ryman League Premier Division match between Wealdstone and Bury Town. I was once asked by someone to explain this “football pyramid thing” that I kept banging on about and it was only then, as a follower of non-League football for many years, that it dawned on me that there are many football fans out there who have little or no idea that the Pyramid even exists, let alone what it is all about. These will invariably be supporters of clubs at the apex of the Pyramid, in other words Premier League and Championship clubs. For example ask the average Manchester United or Chelsea fan about the Isthmian League and they will look at you as if you’ve just grown another head. These were the very fans at whom Non League Day was aimed. Although the analogy of the pyramid is a good one, it rather gives the impression that the whole structure is clearly visible, just like the Egyptian pyramids. The truth however, is that this pyramid is covered in dense overgrowth, with only the top – Premier and Football League – sticking out. Therefore it is necessary to hack away that overgrowth and expose the non-League that lies beneath. A further analogy might be a well-kept garden in summer. It’s all too...

Non-League Videos Of The Week

We have a lot of videos to get through for this week’s non-league videos of the week, as the non-league season comes to an end and the end of season play-offs begin. First up, comes a match from the race for the play-off places in the Blue Square South. With Braintree Town already promoted to the Blue Square Premier as champions of the division, most eyes on the last day of the season turned to the question of who will be joining them. Chelmsford City have been hanging around the play-off places for most of the season, and they went into their final league match of the season knowing that a win would guarantee them a place in the Blue Square South play-offs. They were at home against a Hampton & Richmond Borough side that have spent much of their season just above the relegation places and who went into Saturday’s match already safe in the knowledge that they were just about already safe.   The Blue Square South play-off semi-finals will, therefore, be between Farnborough FC and Woking, while Chelmsford City will travel to Ebbsfleet United in the other match. In the Premier Division of the Ryman League, meanwhile, a similar situation had arisen. Sutton United had been crowned as the champions of the division several weeks ago, but the race for the play-off places has been one...

Midweek Non-League Video Special

The pressures of the outside world don’t often often intrude into the world of Twohundredpercent, but they have this evening and our normal service has been slightly interrupted. Everything will be back to normal with a fresh Mungo tomorrow morning, but for tonight we’re going to leave you with a handful more non-league videos from the last couple of days. Last night was a big night in non-league football, with matches the length and breadth of the country, and our first match is the Blue Square South match between Dartford and Eastleigh. With Eastleigh in the pack chasing a play-off place, this was an important match. Our second match comes from the top of the Ryman League Premier Division. Bury Town are in the pack chasing leaders Sutton United, and a win last night against mid-table Margate would help them close the gap on the leaders. With Sutton not having a game last night, a win would reduce Sutton’s lead at the top of the table to six points, with Bury still having a game in hand. Our third match is from the Blue Square North, where Monday night’s match between Hyde FC and AFC Telford United affected both ends of the league table, with Hyde being just above the relegation places and Telford still being in the play-off places and with a chance of still snatching the championship...

Non-League Videos Of The Week

For those of you viewing Twohundredpercent on our mobile site, you will be able to view this post better by clicking here. It’s time, then, to wind down with our weekly selections of non-league highlights from the last seven days. Our first match this evening comes from Twerton Park, and it’s the Blue Square Premier match between Bath City and Wimbledon. Wimbledon are still chasing a place in the Football League and needed three points from their trip to the west country from this match. Bath, however, may still harbour hopes of a place in the play-offs at the end of the season and provided a stiff test for the team that has spent much of the last few months at the top of the table. Our second match comes from the Premier Division of the Ryman League. Croydon Athletic have had about as dramatic a season as any team could possibly imagine, and are sitting near the foot of the table. They would have one of their most difficult matches of the season on Saturday against Bury Town, who are in second place in the table and are still chasing the coat-tails of the league leaders Sutton United. Our final match comes from the Premier Division of the Zamaretto League and is between Cambridge City and Brackley Town. Cambridge managed to get themselves an extension on their Milton...
