Non-League Videos Of The Week: Blue Square Premier Special

This morning’s non-league videos of the week come from the Blue Square Bet Premier. Last weekend saw the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy, which involved a number of clubs from the fifth division, all of which left clubs that had already been eliminated from that particular competition to get on with the important job of accumulating points in the league. Our first match features Wimbledon and Altrincham. Wimbledon, to put it bluntly, need to keep winning now if they are to get anywhere near the top of the Blue Square Premier table by the end of the season. Their defeat at home against Wrexham during the week left Crawley Town firmly in the driving seat at the top of the table, just three points behind them but with five games in hand. Altrincham, meanwhile, remain firmly in the relegation places at the bottom of the table. Our second match features another club that are battling against relegation, Hayes & Yeading United, against a team chasing a place in the play-offs, York City. Videos Of The Week: Non-League Special

It’s time for a bit of a non-league round-up (as is our wont at this time of the week), with highlights of three matches from the last couple of weekend’s worth of matches. First up, we’re taking the opportunity to catch up with one of the matches from the weekend of the 15th of January, with the FA Trophy Second Round match between Blyth Spartans. Blyth Spartans, of course, made the Fifth Round of the FA Cup in 1978 and the Quarter-Finals of the FA Trophy in 1980 and 1983 (beating Altrincham on the way). Altrincham, meanwhile, were setting records of their own at the same time. They missed out on a place in the FA Trophy final in 1977 after a marathon four match long semi-final against Scarborough, but won the competition two years later and were runners-up again in 1982. Anyway, it was a cracking match at Croft Park last weekend. Our second match comes from the Blue Square South, and is a local derby from the south-east between Ebbsfleet United and Bromley. Bromley, the visitors, started the season with seven successive league wins and remained unbeaten until the middle of October. The chasing pack has since caught them up and they recently suffered the ignominy of a 7-0...

Match Of The Week: Histon 0-0 Altrincham

Histon and Altrincham sit in twelfth and eleven place in the Blue Square Premier respectively. Three weeks before Christmas, they met in the Cambridgeshire rain with half an eye on the play-off places and the other on the bottom of the table. The result wasn’t the greatest game of the season.
