Podcast 183: Winning at Dominoes 13 – The Union, The League, The City & The Avenue

by | Oct 29, 2019

This week’s episode of Winning at Dominoes takes in three branches of the same sporting tree. Association football, rugby union, and rugby league. This week, we’ve got the story of how the cleaving apart of the game of rugby led to the formation of two association football clubs. One of those clubs, Bradford City, is still with us. The other, Bradford (Park Avenue), is a reformed club after the previous one went bust in 1974, having been voted out of the Football League four years earlier. This is their story, and the story of the club that gave birth to them.

(I am aware, by the way, of the slip in describing what should have been Manchester United as Manchester City. It was only part of a brief aside, and it’s too late to change it now. To be clear, Bradford put eight goals past Manchester City at Maine Road in 1946, and then took Manchester United to two replays before losing to them, again at Maine Road, in 1948.)
