Podcast 177: Desert Island Pitch 3 – Kirsten Schlewitz

by | Sep 18, 2019

This week’s 200% podcast is out third in the Desert Island Pitch series, in which a guest is charged with the job of selecting a team to play the 1970 World Cup winning Brazil team on a pitch incomprehensibly built on an island in the middle of the ocean. Our guest this week is Kirsten Schlewitz, one of the founding editors of Unusual Efforts. Kirsten’s team may be a little tactically unbalanced, but along the way, there’s a celebration of Tito-era electronic engineering, a goalkeeper getting cookery ideas on the fly and a new cocktail is invented. Ian tries to remember whether or not he ever smoked during Sunday League games in which he was a participant and, in a Desert Island Pitch first, a member of the starting eleven is earmarked as the first member of the team who will be eaten should things come to that. There is also a world exclusive preview of the post-Brexit England football kit.

There are some hot takes and deeply nuanced choices on display, and that is before you even consider that throughout the recording Ian was watching his team play in the European Cup semi final (this podcast was recorded in May), a fact that he – for the most part at least – managed to keep under his hat. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we did.

There’s a bunch of different ways in which you can subscribe to the 200% podcast, of course. You can do so through Spotify, which you can find right here, and you can download this week’s to listen to at your leisure by right-clicking and saving here, whilst the podcast RSS feed is here and you can subscribe through Itunes here. Please rate and review if you appreciate what we do!

And if you’re wondering about any other ways in which you can prevent us from wasting away and ultimately starving to death, we also still have our Redbubble shop, for the sartorially minded amongst you, and you can get more 200% podcasts on a variety of different subjects by joining us on Patreon. We even now have a Kofi button, so do feel free to feed me stimulants in order to keep me cracking on in a caffeine-fuelled state of delirium until four o’clock every morning, and many thank yous to those of you who have already been generous enough to donate.
