Podcast 170: Winning At Dominoes 1 – Those Feet In Ancient Times

by | Jul 24, 2019

This week’s 200% podcast is just me throwing an idea out there, with a view to doing these on a more regular basis throughout next season. This is Winning At Dominoes (if in doubt, crib some words from a jocular Brian Clough quote), a new podcast which is different to anything that I’ve attempted to try before, to tell a story through a podcast, stopping off for the final section to talk in a slightly less formal way, to try and offer some colour on the story that has preceded it.

The first episode is about Muscular Christianity and Tom Brown’s Schooldays, the formation of the Football Association in 1863, the advent of professionalism, the amateur ethos and its wax, wane, and the fairly rapid drop-off of the amateur game from the late 1950s until its abolition as a distinction in by the FA 1974. It’s about class, taking the game to the world and shying away from it, Depending on the reception that this one gets, I intend to try to pencil in one per month. They are quite time-consuming, you know (though the next one is already recorded.)

There’s a bunch of different ways in which you can subscribe to the 200% podcast, of course. You can do so through Spotify, which you can find right here, and you can download this week’s to listen to at your leisure by right-clicking and saving here, whilst the podcast RSS feed is here and you can subscribe through Itunes here. Please rate and review if you appreciate what we do!

And if you’re wondering about any other ways in which you can prevent us from wasting away and ultimately starving to death, we also still have our Redbubble shop, for the sartorially minded amongst you, and you can get more 200% podcasts on a variety of different subjects by joining us on Patreon.
