Good evening, everybody. There may be one or two of you who are wondering why things on this site have been a little slow of late. Well, the obvious answer to such a question is to reply by mentioning that sometimes life gets in the way. As some of you may already be aware, my lovely wife is an immigrant to this country, and she is also due to give birth in around twelve days time. Because of the advanced stage of her pregnancy, she’s unable to work at present, and, contrary to what you may have read in certain sections of the press, a lot of people who come to live in this country aren’t eligible to receive any benefits whatsoever, all of which means that it’s currently falling upon me to work fifty hour weeks in order for us to be able to get by.
This, of course, has a knock on effect upon my ability to produce content for this site. I’m pretty much exhausted most of the time, and I still have commitments outside of work that are also pretty much unavoidable. Furthermore, that lack of time, lack of sleep and change of priorities is only going to become sharper over time. My son, when he arrives, will be the centre of my whole world, and his wellbeing will take priority over everything else. None of this is to say that I have any desire to close this place down or even put it on hiatus. We intend to continue with our podcast to the extent to which it’s practical, and I wish to keep the site updated as often as possible.
This, of course, is where you come in, dear reader. We need your content. Whether it’s old, new, especially written or whatever, I’d love to be able to keep this site ticking over for a few weeks with your words, pictures, art, whatever you like. If you’re reading this and you know the site, you likely already know what the house style is around here. If not, feel free to have a look around the archive. If you can help at all, please contact me either on on Twitter or via our Contact page, which is linked on the right hand side of this page. Your help will be gratefully appreciated.
I’m going to be adding PayPal donation buttons to the site and posts on here, and if anybody does consider our content to be worthy of a small donation, I’ll ensure that anybody who does contribute gets paid somehow, of we receive anything in. I have no idea how much this might be, if anything at all, but I do believe that people should be paid if humanly possible, and now seems like as good a time as any to trial it. You never know until you try, and maintaining this place requires both money and time. I’m not going to try and push an argument that “we’re worth your money,” though. That’s for readers of the site to decide. In the meantime, I’ll continue to scribble as and when I’m able to, but soon – quite plausibly any day now, as she’s now at full term – it will have to take a back step, even if only temporarily.
In the meantime, and I’m hesitant at the idea of describing it as such, I’ve got a “reward” of sorts for those of you who did make it this far down this particular interlude. Last Saturday, I went to the FA Cup Preliminary round match between Worthing and Walton & Hersham, and wrote about it for the very lovely guys at The Real FA Cup. You can find my words on that match right here. Normal service will resume here tonight, because I have a well of unhappiness to set free on the small matter of transfer deadline day. It should be with you… later tonight. Thanks for reading.
