Manchester City are, of course, one of the richest football clubs in the world at the moment, but Hyde United are battling to save their existence over a debt of £122,000 – an amount of money which is but a mere fraction of City’s weekly wage budget. They have been given a fighting chance if they can raise £35,000 in the next couple of days – if everyone at the stadium tonight gave them just £1 each, they would sail through this target at a canter. Of course, it is easy to wonder about how they managed to find themselves in this position and be critical of them, but now is not really the time for such considerations.
