If Manchester City’s gold-plated start to the season has brought plaudits from all four corners of the planet, spare a thought for Leyton Orient, who have won five out of five and now sit clear at the top of League Two. They lead from Plymouth Argyle. The big match of the day, however, came at Kenilworth Road, where Portsmouth beat Luton Town. Of these two pre-season favourites, one team is performing according to expectations, whilst the other is. Portsmouth’s late winning goal yesterday demonstrated how narrow these margins can be. At the bottom of the table, meanwhile, Newport County expected a difficult start to the season and they sit at the foot with just the one point from their first five matches.
