Euro 2016 on 200%: Wales vs Slovakia… Live!
It’s only taken them fifty-eight years to manage it, but Wales are back in the final of a major tournament again, and before we get too weighed down with the idea that they qualified because this summer’s tournament expanded to twenty-four nations, let’s pause to consider the fact that Wales finished comfortable group runners-up behind Belgium. They’re here on merit, and it would be safe to say that they’d probably be here on merit were their only sixteen teams taking part in this tournament.
As for Slovakia, meanwhile, well, they finished as runners-up in their group and beat the winners, Spain, by two goals to one in their first match against them. In addition to this, of course, they also beat Germany in a recent friendly, so while we may not know for certain how exactly this team will perform in the finals, we already know that they are not to be taken for granted. Wales, of all the teams in this group, are surely the least likely to do so. A win this afternoon would give them an outstanding chance of making it through to the next round with two arguably tougher games to come. And yes, you may insert your own “but one of them is England” jokes here.
But anyway, we’ll be back shortly before kick-off with more. See you all shortly!
