Christmas on 200%: Ripping Yarns – Golden Gordon

by | Dec 25, 2015

Over the next few days, we’re taking a break from words – unless anything extraordinary happens – in order to bring you some football-related television from the past. If you happen to be watching from a desktop or laptop and find that the entire video doesn’t fit, try minimising the size of the window a little and you should find that this does the trick.

Happy Christmas, everybody! To mark Christmas day here on Twohundredpercent, we’re replaying this episode of Michael Palin’s Ripping Yarns from 1979. When Gordon Ottershaw’s non-league football club is faced with closure, the obsessive fan tries to gather as many of the club’s greatest ever team together for one final match. This episode is probably best known for Ottershaw’s, shall we say, over-enthusiastic reaction to his team’s defeat and also features a cameo by a certain Mr John Cleese.
