Is The BBC Considering Axing The Football League Show?

The comments of the host of The Football League Show, Manish Bhasin, over the whereabouts of his show in the BBC schedules over the festive break have been causing social media no little disquiet over the last couple of days or so. This morning, though, a chink of light was granted into a possible reason behind why Bhasin was being so forthright on the subject, with rumours starting to appear in the press suggesting that the corporation is not going to renew its option on the programme come the end of this season. If this rumour has any...

Bank Holiday Tuesday – Portrait Of A Foul

Imagine if you will being born. A comfortable float around a womb that you are quickly starting to outgrow. It has to end. Something’s got to give. Then the pushing and the seepage and the screaming and hey presto, pro-lifers everywhere pat themselves on the back, someone done a baby. As a life event, it is perhaps the most dangerous, perilous and traumatic your body will ever face. And that’s what it is like to play non-league football on a Christmas Bank Holiday, I would like to argue. Not for the non-league player the...

For the second part of our Non-League Videos Of The Week, we have two matches from the Blue Square Bet Premier Division. At the top of the table, Wrexham are continuing to hold Fleetwood Town at bay and, while Fleetwood had a Lancashire derby match at home against third placed Southport on Boxing Day, Wrexham, who are now owned by their supporters, made the relatively short trip to Shropshire to play another supporter-owned team, AFC Telford United, and over four thousand people turned out at New Bucks Head for the match. Posted by on 5:50 pm in Latest, Opinion | 0 comments

Christmas is nearly upon us, so it is time for us to sit back by a roaring fire, pour a glass off eggnog and enjoy the first part of a festive morality tale which comes to us courtesy of Jude Ellery of Man & Ball, Football Farrago and, most recently, Strange Bounce. In part one of this reworking of Twas The Night Before Christmas, entitled A Visit From St Meredith, we are visited by a rather familiar figure for this time of year. The other two parts of this trilogy will be available on Strange Bounce next week. Our thanks go to Jude for...

The Bailiffs Cometh: Kettering Town’s Final Hurrah At Rockingham Road

Posted by on 12:47 pm in Finance, Latest, Non-League | 1 comment

On the pitch, Kettering Town have picked up a little of late. Two consecutive draws have lifted them just out of the relegation places in the Blue Square Bet Premier and, even though the club’s transfer embargo remains in place, they even managed a full substitutes bench their match against on Tuesday night. However, while manager Mark Stimson may be be getting somewhere close to achieving alchemy on the pitch, the club’s financial situation continues to be a source of major concern going into the new year and, whilst a home...
