    Excellent article!

How I remember those glorious Sunday afternoons watching The Big Match with Brian Moore back in my youth. You always got the impression that the programme was made by people who knew the sport and were good at there job, yet sadly things went distinctly awry by the time the 1980’s took hold.

For me, the peak of ITVs ineptness was to get Matthew Lorenzo (nice enough, but never strong on personality) to front their 1994 World Cup coverage from a ‘media bunker’ in Dallas. If ‘being there where the action is’ was so important, why no put him in a studio where we can see part of America behind him? he could have been in London for all we knew!

I shudder to think what ITVs new coverage of the FA Cup will be right, I really do…
