New Zealand were beaten by Fiji, not Fuji, that’s a mountain in Japan. Although it could probably put a few past the All Whites as well! ;)

Thanks for pointing that out, Chris. I’m marking that down as a typo from old sausage fingers.

Acclaimed they may be, but a backline including three defenders from Juventus should not be considered very formidable. Cannavaro et al haven’t exactly had a great season.

  4. Smeltz has a reputation as a flat track bully so I would not be surprised if West Brom kid Chris Wood gets the nod from Ricki Herbert. he and Killen are probably the most talented two strikers but are maybe too similar in style.

The familiarity of the Italian squad is endearing but also provides a worry. Gilardino and Iaquinta are nothing special and there does seem to be a real problem in attack. I would also question the creakiness of an aging defence, although advances in diet and preparation of recent years is allowing players longer shelf lives. De Rossi is the pivotal player for me: a little nasty, but you would want him playing for your team.
