  1. South Africa might get a lot of dodgy decisions (remember South Korea, anyone?) I wouldn’t be surprised if they scrape through so the interest is kept alive in the home nation.

    Slight correction, Mexico qualified from CONCACAF. While there are some grizzly vets seeing their last WC, the team’s success will rest in the feet of the yougsters. I believe Temoc will have a very small impact on the field. Guys like Vela, Gio, Chicharito, Ochoa, and Guardado will determine how far this team goes.

    Another slight correction – Uruguay played Italy in the second round in 1990. The Argentina encounter was in 1986.

  4. Of course France’s preparations have been thrown into turmoil by scandal. Everything may be swept under the carpet though and I’d fancy them to move through from a very soft group. South Africa are certainly in danger of not qualifying for the second phase but I’ll stick my neck out and say they will: neither Uruguay nor Mexico were impressive away from home in the qualifiers.
