First of all, thanks to Simon Cope of Scarborough Athletic for taking a few minutes out to do something that we hadn’t quite got around to doing over the last four years or so, and setting up a Twohundredpercent page on Facebook. Feel free to “become a fan” of it and bask in its luxuriousness. Moving to more pressing matters, however, we turn to this week’s Video Of The Week. This week we go back, as we are wont to do, to the late 1970s, but this isn’t any old match. It’s the match Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion from the 30th of December 1979.
West Bromwich Albion had been going along quite nicely in the First Division up until this point, and went to Old Trafford knowing that a win there would leave them in a position to go top of the table if they won the games in hand that they held over the leaders, Liverpool. Things didn’t quite work out for Albion that season, and one of the great teams of the late 1970s ended up not winning a single trophy. At least Ipswich Town had the consolation of picking up an FA Cup and a UEFA Cup as they tried to hang on to Liverpool’s coattails, even if they couldn’t win a league title either. This film features extended highlights of the match, as well as interviews with Cyrille Regis, Bryan Robson and Ron Atkinson, amongst others.

I was at that match with my father, I was 15 years old . We travelled up from the midlands with friends and we didnt have tickets.
We purchased 4 resticted view tickets from a guy outside the ground for next to nothing and what a buy that turned out to be. The only restriction was one corner flag that we saw through perspex glass.
We played fanatastic, probably the best I have ever seen the baggies play.
Cunningham was out of this world and Regis, Bomber and Robson ran United ragged. The match had everything including fantastic goals (Cantello scored the goal of the season at that game).
I’ll never forget that match for as long as I live.
Those were the days, bring ’em back.
