Thank you for this article. I am a huge Aston Villa supporter and I really thought that my fellow supporters had Bi-polar issues as the post swung from one end to the other.

You’ve forgotten the other old favourite ‘my *insert family member of choice here* knows *name of relative of player at club’s relative* who said that *insert facile rumour of your choice here*’

ALSO, the typical lifespan of the Football Thread runs through 3 distinct phases, with an optional fourth.
    1. Panic – ‘WERE RUBISH AND GOING DWON’

    2. Blame – ‘WHY WONT HE PLAY *INSERT NAME OF OUT OF FAVOUR, BUT INEPT CROWD FAVOURITE HERE*, BOOOOO’
    3. Disgrace – ‘This club/manager/player/ref is a disgrace’.

and finally, 4, Laughing Stock ‘this is making our club into a laughing stock’.

In fairness these sites are quite addictive and despite getting very annoyed with them, I will be back on after writing this.

    Hudds Town fan here

    Spot on analysis

We win 1 game – we’re going oop as champions

    We lose 1 game – sack the manager/board/backroom staff/boycott programmes/food etc etc.

Its nice to know it not just our forum that acts in the above manner.

I’m a fan of the posts pointing you to a video of a South American 12 year old claiming them to be the next Pele and should be snapped up straight away.

It’s not the internet forum that’s evil, the forum doesn’t perpetrate these crimes, they are committed by humans. This is exactly the kind of knee jerk reaction … that I would make. Heh. You are so right but so wrong, this accessibility is also, arguably, what can make the internet forum good and why 200% exists. Ta, now come over to therealfacup and comment on the worst miss ever. Hahaha.

  9. […] The Evil That Is The Internet Football Forum “Lincoln City supporter Keith Duncombe stepped into the murky world of the football internet forum in 1997 and, in spite of warnings from his doctor about the ill-effects that it is all having on his blood pressure, he is still there.” (twohundredpercent) […]

Great stuff! It’s an unpopular truth that most football fans are thick and the internet just reflects that.

You forgot to mention how the transfer windows affect the sanity of posters. Suddenly people are posting new team lineups for the first game of the season featuring five new multi-million pound signings that some journo at The Sun has stated will definitely be signing for your club in the next 25 minutes.

    Morons.

    I like it though.

You fans are asleep, wake up to what is really going on in football. If you all gave this a try you would see for yourselves: Fans world wide should boycott season tickets. The clubs would have no choice but to sell them match by match. Everytime a team loses or draws a game to a team they shouldn’t, punish them. Don’t buy tickets for the next 3 games, do it for this season and see how long football remains “a funny old game”. Not long guaranteed; WAKE UP, for crying outloud! It stopped being a genuine sport a long time ago. And because fans haven’t cottoned on, clubs have just become more blatant about it. They have no respect for YOU, the question is do you have any for yourselves, or are you one of the mugs who is content to shell out your hard earned in exchange for second rate football.
