“Relegation back to the Championship after just one season away was the inevitable result of such a run.”

It did look inevitable, but we actually stayed up and went down the next season.

We owe everything to Bruce. He brought in decent players and cleared out the useless. He clearly can see who can play.

Yes we didn’t win the last 4 games in the Chump, but there were too many poor performances, particularly after the brilliant display against Leeds, to instill much confidence. Further, results in friendlies over the summer are poor, whatever that means. Failure to score is a worry. But we are not the only team with that problem – it is a universal moan.

But in Bruce we trust. His track record is a bonus, and if anyone can do it he can. Perhaps the slower style of play in the PL will suit us better. Perhaps the team will rise to the occasion. Only time will tell.

We are determined to enjoy it, whatever the season brings.

Relegated back to the Championship after just one season away last time. I think you’ll find we stayed up for two. Do your research, son.

Good read, thanks. One minor point, Hull survived their first season in the premier league, relegated the following season.

  5. Rob says:

They were in the PL for TWO seasons, not one as your article suggests.

  6. Andy says:

Errr, Hull didn’t inevitably get relegated after 1 season in the PL last time. Your article rightly mentions our poor scoring record but makes no mention of our solid defence.

“Relegation back to the Championship after just one season away was the inevitable result of such a run’.
Not that inevitable, seeing as it did not actually happen!
They did go down the following season, though.

Several sensible comments made in the article. No Hull fan is under any illusion that 2013/14 will not be a difficult season but we are determined to enjoy it and we might just surprise a few people.

Just one thing though, whilst I appreciate you have to preview all of the League’s clubs’ fortunes facts still shouldn’t be too hard to come by!
For the record, the last time Hull were in the Premier League we were there for two consecutive seasons, staying up on the last day of our first season at the expense of Newcastle, finally relegated at the end of 2009/10 with Portsmouth and Burnley.
    Just thought I’d enlighten you!!

You’ve got it wrong, Hull City were in the premier league for 2 years not 1 and a 3 year absence from it not 4. The first season(2008/2009) we finished 17th and the second season(2009/2010) we finished 19th. So change it please
