    Given that the Royals will (probably) be relegated and receive considerable assistance in the form of parachute payments, I wonder who would be better qualified to take them back up.

    The longer term ‘yo-yo’ model (perhaps not entirely intentional!) worked very nicely for West Bromwich Albion – playing out a title race, followed by a relegation scrap, year on year (something always at stake) – before they were in a position to consolidate as a Premier League club.

    Perhaps BMc could have been the man to preside over such a strategy for Reading?

    But no, chairmen of professional football clubs unite, let’s all froth at the mouth and keep decision making strictly knee-jerk and short termist…
