Good article Ian. I can sympathise with Hitchin. My club, Carmarthen Town FC play Newport County at home this Saturday and a Swansea City XI on 28th July (both 230pm kick offs by the way!). The income we generate is vital to keep the club going.

A lot of fans of my club (Walsall) moan that we play the same teams at home every pre-season – invariably Wolves, Villa and Albion. But from the club’s point of view it’s an economic no-brainer: 4/5,000 away fans guaranteed.
