The football clubs of the Premier League and the Championship had a break for another round of international matches this weekend, but there were few such luxuries for the butchers, bakers and candlestick makers of non-league football with a round of fixtures which included the Preliminary Round of another competition which has suffered a little damage to its reputation in recent years, the FA Trophy. We have four matches for you this evening, one from the Blue Square Premier, one from the Blue Square South, one from Division One of the Northern League and one from the FA Trophy itself.
First up is a match between two clubs with upwardly mobile ambitions this season. Mansfield Town are hanging around on the brink of a place in the Blue Square Premier play-offs, whilst Grimsby Town, meanwhile, have recovered from a dreadful start to the season and are now heading towards the middle of the table. Our second match is the Blue Square South match between Havant & Waterlooville and Bromley. Havant have had a diifficult start to the season and are not far above the relegation places in the table, while Bromley are in mid-table with one eye on an end of season play-off place.
Our final two matches are from a slightly lower level of the non-league game. In Division One of the Northern League, Spennymoor Town are chasing the title at the top of a congested division, and they were at home on Saturday against the FA Vase winners for the previous three consecutive seasons, Whitley Bay. Finally, we have a match from the Preliminary Round of the FA Trophy, as Enfield Town travel south to play Walton & Hersham. Our thanks, as ever, go to those that take the time to record, edit and upload these matches every week.
