I think a 1 point deduction and a £20k fine is a fair punishment considering the circumstances. (Hind sight is a great thing). However a team not so far away across London fielded an ineligible player for 25 games culminating in Premiership survival and they were not docked any points.(???) No consistency across the leagues & this needs to be addressed.

Perhaps if Rui Fonte had scored there would have been justification for a stiffer penalty and even some restoration for the Blades. As it is and speaking as a Palace supporter, I think it’s reasonable.

It’s just the Football League enforcing their rules, in case of a future situation – the last time this happenned was in 2006, when Bury were deducted a point, again after the end of the season, and again it kept them in 19th place.
