An interesting and thoughtful article. I am a Chelsea fan and welcome the appointment of AVB. I would also welcome the gradual evolution of the squad at the hands of the manager, and would be prepared to forego any trophies in the 2011-12 season, but this would be cushioned by the hope of future excellence. However I fear I am in a minority thinking this way, because if the team are not challenging for the Premiership and/or the Champions League at Christmas then the fans on the terraces and the media will be calling for the head of AVB. Subsequently I fear that Roman Abramovich will not be able to keep his nerve, we will be in familar territory come January, and enter stage left, Guus Hiddink. Shame really.

  2. Chelsea will still be strong but I can’t see Torres turning things round. The manager will need to show decisiveness if this turns out to be the case early. Looking forward to seeing more of Bertrand, MacEachran and others.
