Game 39 will happen, it’s as inevitable as the World Club championship – as is its subsequent failure. The moral arguments against it are absolute, but money talks – and the lack of money and interest will soon start talking in those areas where they are treated to fixtures not involving the ‘glamour’ sides. They’ll turn out for Manchester United v Chelsea, for a little while they’ll turn out for Manchester United v Bolton, but they’ll never turn out in force for Wigan v Middlesbrough – no disrespect to either of those clubs, but they find it hard enough attracting fans in their own cities, why would anyone in Asia be any different?
