As a club who was widely, and indeed rightly, accused of operating a `colour bar` in the early 90`s, the fact that the chairman, John Williams, considered the view of the Fans, and discounted McLaren and Allardyce in favour of Ince, indicates that the club has moved on.
We were the last Premier League winning side (I won`t go on about it) to exclude any Afro Caribbean hued players, and also a club whose main benefactor contrived to ease Mackay/Dalglish/Hodgson`s gaze away from anyone who didn`t look like the Aryan Alan Shearer (a fine example of someone to be found singing`Tomorrow Belongs To Me`.)
The main consensus in East Lancashire is that the media who dislike Blackburn Rovers have been liver deep in their slush fund for years. With the exception of James Richardson, who befriended Ince in Milan, and Joe Lovejoy, who bemoaned the `smear` against Ince last Sunday, most `hacks` have sat uneasily with the machinations of `The Guvnor` for years.
Ince`s self-aggrandizing over the years has left him a solitary figure (like most `guvnors`) and to paraphrase Morrissey (Oh, the irony); We Hate It If Our Fiends(sic) Become Successful, and it`s worse if they`re black.
I suppose it`s easy to say `Balls To The Media` if you sneak a last minute victory at Goodison. However, one swallow doesn`t make a summer and it has a habit of snowballing you.
Now that the biggest gob has left Ewood for a longer spell only playing when the `live game` cameras are present, there is no-one to necessitate keeping the Blackburn players sweet; there are no quotable characters, there is no scandal, there are no `media fillers`. Only Warnock, whom they have tried hard to unsettle this week.
One daily paper has been `blackballed` (no pun available) from the ground, training centre and press conferences. A commendable stand, but ultimately, a paper towel against a shitstorm.
